Freescale Launches Microcontroller Training Program for Embedded Design Engineers in China

Online Training Program Provides Developers with a Strong Technical Foundation in Freescales Controller Continuum and Embedded Control Architectures

Nov 13, 2006

Responding to the rapid growth of the embedded market in China, Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL) (NYSE:FSL.B) is conducting an online training program designed to familiarize design engineers and electrical engineering students with the companys microcontroller (MCU) and digital signal controller (DSC) technologies and architectures.

The goal of the training program is to expose more design engineers in China to Freescale flagship MCU/DSC products so they can experience first-hand the ease of design and smooth migration offered by Freescales Controller Continuum.

Introduced in the first quarter of 2006, Freescales Controller Continuum for consumer and industrial applications features an 8- to 32-bit roadmap with pin-compatible devices designed to share common peripherals and development tools. The RS08KA family of 8-bit microcontrollers provides an ultra-low-end entry point into the Controller Continuum, while the recently announced V1 ColdFire® core is the first step toward pin-for-pin compatibility between 8-bit and 32-bit MCUs.

Embedded control systems are pervasive throughout our lives, often serving as unseen interfaces that provide intelligence and connectivity for countless consumer electronic and industrial control devices, said Allen Kwan, director of Asia-Pacific marketing for Freescales Transportation and Standard Products Group. Weve designed our microcontroller training program to help designers become more familiar with our MCU offerings and to apply them in their next embedded system designs.

Freescale MCU Scholarship Program details

The Freescale Microcontroller Scholarship Program will introduce qualified participants in China to Freescales 8-, 16- and 32-bit embedded control products. The program includes three phases of online training, followed by quizzes after each level.

Level 1 began Oct. 18 with a webcast that introduced Freescales RS08 ultra-low-end 8-bit core and the MC9RS08KA family. Level 2 begins Dec. 21 with a webcast about Freescales 56F8000 series, a DSC platform aimed at cost-sensitive applications requiring a versatile 16-bit solution that combines the ease of use of a microcontroller with the high performance of a digital signal processor. Starting Jan. 8, 2007, the level 3 online training will focus on Freescales 32-bit ColdFire MCU family and Ethernet applications.

After completing each level of training, participants can complete a quiz to enter into a prize drawing for each corresponding program phase. Individuals who sign up for all three training sessions and complete each quiz on time will be eligible for the grand prize drawing of a new BMW 320i car.

Avnet and WPI are the platinum and gold sponsors of this event. As Freescale distributors, Avnet and WPI provide full design support and distribution services. For more information about the Freescale MCU Scholarship Program, please visit www.freescale.com.cn/MCU.
