Beceem Communications is using the Magma software and has successfully taped out complex, highly integrated, low-power Mobile WiMAX ICs. These ICs integrate PHY and MAC functionality in a single chip and provide high performance, a small footprint and the lowest power consumption. With the Magma software, Beceem was able to implement and sign off 30 percent faster than with conventional point-tool flows, and reduce power and area substantially.
“Beceem's wireless technologies surpass previous spectral efficiency thresholds while providing excellent resistance to fading, multi-path and Doppler-shift,” said Sunny Padacheril, vice president of ASIC Engineering at Beceem Communications Private Limited. “To deliver these capabilities while reducing IC area and power is a significant challenge. The tight integration of the Magma system enables concurrent optimization of timing, area power and noise for better results. And with DFM and sign-off incorporated into the flow, it reduces turnaround time and ultimately development costs.”
“Beceem’s decision to utilize the Magma IC implementation software and incorporate our Sign-off-in-the-Loop technology is another indicator of Magma’s momentum in the market,” said Kam Kittrell, general manager of Magma’s Design Implementation Business Unit. “We’re very pleased with Beceem’s success as it demonstrates the ability of the Magma software to address the demands of complex, highly integrated designs.”
About Blast Yield TX
Blast Yield TX is a foundry-qualified manufacturability and yield enhancement solution for designs targeted at the TSMC’s industry leading processes. It supports the TSMC DFM Data Kit, which brings foundry-accurate DFM to the designer’s desktop. With Blast Yield TX, Magma users can improve manufacturability and yield while concurrently optimizing timing, area, power and noise. This TSMC-compliant DFM flow addresses both random and systematic yield loss and provides tighter correlation to silicon by managing process variation. Built-in DFM compliance checks correlate to TSMC internal tools, simplifying handoff.
About the Sign-off in the Loop Technology
Quartz RC and Quartz Time expand Blast Fusion into a self-contained IC design sign-off system for timing and noise. Developed to address customers’ needs for faster design flows at advanced geometries, Sign-off in the Loop eliminates external sign-off iterations and delivers correct-by-construction results, reducing sign-off to a mere checklist activity.
Quartz RC is a sign-off-quality parasitic extraction product that delivers accuracy closely correlated to QuickCap®, acknowledged as the industry’s gold standard for parasitic extraction. Quartz RC can be accessed within the Blast Fusion flow or can be used as a standalone system by ASIC designers via industry-standard LEF/DEF (Library Exchange Format/Design Exchange Format) input.
Quartz Time provides accurate timing and noise analysis and sign-off and multi-mode and multi-corner analysis. Quartz Time was designed to address the complex timing problems created by nanometer processes. Quartz Time also provides advanced timing capabilities, such as enhanced current source model (ECSM) support, as well as support for multi-voltage design and timing-impact analysis of voltage-drop-induced delay. By sharing its analysis engine with Blast Fusion QT and Blast Noise, Quartz Time perfectly complements the built-in sign-off system of Blast Fusion QT and extends support to ASIC designers’ independent sign-off verification flows.
