The Audi R8’s daytime running lamps are designed with 12 separate LED spotlights per lamp. The use of LEDs for daytime running lamps reduces power consumption and provides unique lighting solutions by using clusters of small, yet powerful, solid state light sources.
OSRAM’s Advanced Power TOPLED provides 18 lumens at 140 mA, which allows the creation of a signature lamp appearance while meeting all lighting requirements. With proprietary ThinGaN® chip technology and chip-level phosphor conversion, higher luminance white light is generated and higher optical efficiency can be achieved with better coupling with optical systems.
The introduction of mandatory daytime running lights in numerous countries throughout Europe is giving vehicle manufacturers further opportunity to differentiate their products with unique headlight designs. The Advanced Power TOPLED provides bright, white light in a robust, compact package giving automotive designers the freedom to create personalized lighting solutions. Recent packaging improvements in Advanced Power TOPLED improve lifetime and high-temperature capability, making it the ideal device for demanding under hood applications such as LED Forward Lighting.
The Advanced Power TOPLED with chip level conversion will be available in mid-2007.
